El escritor estadounidense
Steve Alten, cuyas dos últimas novelas
giran en torno a una supuesta profecía maya del fin del mundo en
2012, cuando termina el calendario de dicha cultura, aseguró en
México que esto se refiere al fin de una era histórica y no al fin
de la humanidad.
Durante la presentación en este país de El testamento maya y
La
resurrección maya, la primera y segunda parte de una tetralogía cuyo
tercer tomo apenas está comenzando a escribir, Alten (Filadelfia,
1959), doctor en medicina deportiva, indicó que el
21 de
Diciembre
de 2012 es “un punto de no retorno” para la humanidad, aunque
no
necesariamente significará el fin de la especie.

“Obviamente no sé qué es lo que va a pasar, pero creo que puede ser
un cambio interno y externo en el ser humano, aunque no
necesariamente físico”, trató de explicar durante la presentación
que se realizó en el Museo Nacional de Antropología.
Indicó que tras
un periodo de oscuridad, llega un periodo de luz, por lo que 2012
puede ser un cambio a positivo.
Citó como ejemplo los ocho años de Gobierno en Estados Unidos de
George W. Bush, en su opinión los años más “oscuros” de su país, que
fueron seguidos por la elección del primer presidente afroamericano
del país,
Barack Obama.
Alten indicó que en 2012 volverá a haber elecciones en su país, y
que él espera que Obama sea reelegido para seguir haciendo,
“los
grandes cambios que son necesarios”.
En su opinión este
cambio en el ser humano tiene que pasar por
recurrir más a la espiritualidad, ser más ecológicos y “amar más”.
“Es importante no tomar el fin del calendario maya como una profecía
del fin del mundo, sino buscarle lo positivo”, dijo, aunque después
indicó que en su opinión y según la cultura maya "la humanidad es
cíclica y está condenada a repetir los errores del pasado hasta que
se encuentre la solución al problema".
Dijo que algunas teorías apuntan a que el ocaso de esta civilización
se debió al fin de los recursos, y que lo mismo está pasando en la
actualidad, con la utilización de energías fósiles.
Agregó que si la especie humana no se quiere extinguir, tendrá que
reducir su número en el corto plazo de los 6 mil millones de
personas que habitan ahora la Tierra a
500 millones.
Además, señaló, que aquellos que sobrevivan serán los que sepan
producir su propio alimento, y por tanto serán los indígenas y
campesinos.

The American writer Steve Alten, whose two last novels turn around a
supposed Mayan prophecy of the end of the world in 2012, when the
calendar of this culture finishes, assured in Mexico that this talks
about to the end of an historical era and not the end of the
humanity.
