The Philadelphia experiment was done in 1943. The point was to make
a ship, the U.S.S. Aldridge, invisible to sonar and radar. The
problem came when the experiment worked. The ship not only became
invisible to radar, but invisible to the naked eye as well. It was
gone. Somehow it dematerialized, and with it went its crew of 181
The ship dematerialized in Norfolk Harbor, VA. It
materialized in Philadelphia Harbor a full 24 hours later, but there
were problems. Out of a crew of 181, 21 survived most only to die a
short time later, 40 were dead, and 120 never came back. The story
of the Philadelphia Experiment is of course "officially denied," but
it is a very real story. Very real, and very terrible, mainly
because denial of the incident also denies the service men who died
in the experiment peace.
Rips in Time
Philadelphia Experiment Notes
In July 1943, a battle ship pulled into the Delaware Bay area for a
Naval experiment that involved making the ship invisible in some
way. This projectís official name is íProject Rainbowí, but was
the Philadelphia Experiment.
For some reason, this test
was covered up soon after the experiment was over, which some say is
because they made a huge scientific discovery and the ship was
accurately transported over space and time, then reappeared. BUT,
you have to keep in mind that their are other stories that include
aliens taking sides in WWII with Hitler and the U.S.
The fact is
that the truth has long been covered up with speculation.... ah
well... it still makes for an interesting story, and maybe even a kewl
Hide and seek with the mines
Well, with every secret cover up, thereís the
íOfficialí record of
what happened, in this case...the Navyís record.
The Navy admits to
taking the battleship, the USS Eldridge, and wrapping wire around
the hull of the boat (this is what happens when you have too much
time on your hands: ) in an attempt to cancel out the magnetic
fields of the the metal on the ship. This is known as degaussing.
This would render the ship íinvisibleí to underwater magnetic mines
that rely on proximity sensors to trigger there detonation.
proximity sensors (metal detectors) work by detecting the magnetic
fields around metal objects. This was the main idea behind the wire
around the ship, it was supposed to cancel out the magnetic field
around the boat.
Without a magnetic field, the ship would therefore
be íinvisibleí to proximity minds. The Navy claims this was the goal
of íProject Rainbowí, to make the ships invisible to enemy mines,
not to radar or vision. As far as official accounts go, this one is
It gives a reasonable and believable account of
what happened. But it could be a reasonable and believable cover up
to what happened as well. Who knows?
There are also scientists that speculate that the navy was working
on a way to make the ship invisible to vision, but in a less complex
way... than warping space and time around it.
This theory suggest that the ship was equipped with high frequency
generator that would heat up the surrounding air to cause a mirage,
making the vessel invisible.
This phenomenon is a naturally
occurring one...in fact their have been cases where entire islands
have disappeared from view, when the conditions were right. The high
frequency generator would heat up the surrounding air (and the
water, crating the greenish fog that was said to of engulfed the
ship), and caused a mirage to form, concealing the ship from view.
This generator would also account for the sickness (physical and
mental) of the crew after the experiment.
A high frequency generator can really screw with a persons well
being, especially at close range. This is certainly more plausible
than the degaussing theory, and explains the sailorsí sickness.
this doesnít show how the USS Eldridge could be seen in Norfolk,
Virginia (being teleported from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), by the
civilian crew of SS Andrew Furuseth, when the ship disappeared from
view in only a space of about 15 mins. And the ill details like
crewmen having appendages fused the hull of the ship, and some men
not even coming back.
And believe it or not....the last attempt at
answering this riddle may even be more outlandish than the enigma
Now you see it, Now you DONíT
The most interesting theory about the Philadelphia Experiment,
Project Rainbow, is that it actually did disappear and was
transported across time and space.....you know, the everyday stuff.
Supposedly there was a great number of well known and ingenious
scientists, like Einstein and Tesla, that were taking a part in this
experiment. Its still questionable to whether or not Tesla was
actually there, he was supposed to of been dead when the testing was
taking place (who knows, it might be part of a VERY elaborate cover
up, or just a rumor that someone tried to make fact).
DEFINITELY not well learned in this area of physics or just science,
but Iíll try to relay the info as best I can, and hope I donít screw
up too badly. But the theory goes like this, they wanted to make the
ship invisible to vision, and to do that u have to bend the light
around the object in some way. So they wrapped the shipís
circumference in wire and passed a measured current through it.
caused a huge oscillating magnets to form a magnetic field around
the ship, not only bending the light but space and time. At first
this sounds like something out of a Scifi book (as Iíve been told), but only recently scientist have concluded that even the earth
has space/time eddies, in the upper atmosphere, that are created by
its gravitational force on the space around it.
So isnít it possible
that a magnetic field (which is a stronger force than gravitation)
could of created not only the same but a stronger and more contained
affect on the ship and everything thing with in this field?
am totally out of my league here, and am only speculating, but
sometimes what we take as impossible, is only impossible from our
narrow views, and only need to be widened. This field supposedly
bent all three, light, space, and time, according to Einsteinís
uncompleted Unified Field Theory once you bend one you bend them
all, and the ship transversed all of them to Norfolk, Virginia. Then
was sighted back at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in only 15 mins.
The first time this test was performed the ship didnít disappear all
the way, and supposedly left the imprint of the hull in the water.
And when the ship returned the crew was still in tacked, but
severely disorientated. The second time the ship totally disappeared
in a green fog and was sited in Norfolk, Virginia, by the crew of
the SS Andrew Furuseth.
Not only that, but the crew was seriously
disorientated.... some of them came back mentally ill (some mentally
ill for the rest of their life).. some came back EMBEDDED in the
hull of the ship... and some just didnít come back at all. Some of
the people to come back seemed not to have COMPLETELY come back
There was a reported incident, where one of the former crew of the
USS Eldridge was at a restaurant and just disappeared in a room full
of witnesses. And a newspaper article of a bar room fight, in which
a former crew member was a part of, and everyone in the fight froze.
There are also accounts of people that where on the ship, later
bursting into flames.
A shot in the dark
From all of this we really canít say much, which is mainly from the
total lack of hard evidence and reliable witnesses.
For example, the
main guy to come forward with this information was Carlos Miquel
Allende, who is also a SciFi writer... so is he telling the truth or
just writing a master piece? Also there has been no documentation
found on íProject Rainbowí in any of the Navy records, so it may of
just been a degaussing test to protect the ship from magnetic mines.
But where would such a story come from? And how did the crew of the
SS Andrew Furuseth see the same ship that was in Philadelphia waters
only seconds before? These questions will probably be what keeps the
Philadelphia Experiment an enigma, until either they are answered or
just made unimportant by scientists discovering (or maybe
rediscovering) the same thing.
All in all, its a good story, and
probably will only get better with time.
...Oh.. and for the perfectionists out there ...the boat was
moving at a approximately 10 knots, the bottom of the hull was about
15 feet deep, and the ages of the sailors and scientists were
between 15 and 57.

ELDRIDGE (DE-173) was launched 25 July 1943 by Federal Shipbuilding
and Dry Dock Co., Newark, N.J.; sponsored by Mrs. John Eldridge,
Jr., widow of Lieutenant Commander Eldridge; and commissioned 27
August 1943, Lieutenant C. R. Hamilton, USNR, in command.
Between 4 January 1944 and 9 May 1945, ELDRIDGE sailed on the vital
task of escorting to the Mediterranean men and materials to support
Allied operations in north Africa and on into southern Europe. She
made nine voyages to deliver convoys safely to Casablanca, Bizerte,
and Oran. ELDRIDGE departed New York 28 May 1945 for service in the
En route to Saipan in July, she made contact with an underwater
object and immediately attacked but no results were observed.
arrived at Okinawa 7 August for local escort and patrol, and with
the end of hostilities a week later, continued to serve as escort on
the Saipan-Ulithi-Okinawa routes until November. ELDRIDGE was placed
out of commission, in reserve, 17 June 1946. On 15 January 1951, she
was transferred under the Mutual Defense Assistance program to
Greece, with whom she serves as destroyer escort LEON (D-54).
LEON was disposed of by the Greek Navy in 1991, but she was retained
as a training hulk.

Information Sheet: Philadelphia Experiment
Over the years, the Navy has received innumerable queries about the
so-called "Philadelphia Experiment" or "Project" and the alleged
role of the Office of Naval Research (ONR) in it. The majority of
these inquiries are directed to the Office of Naval Research or to
the Fourth Naval District in Philadelphia. The frequency of these
queries predictably intensifies each time the experiment is
mentioned by the popular press, often in a science fiction book.
The genesis of the Philadelphia Experiment myth dates back to 1955
with the publication of The Case for UFOís by the late Morris K.
Some time after the publication of the book, Jessup received
correspondence from a Carlos Miquel Allende, who gave his address as
R.D. #1, Box 223, New Kensington, Pa. In his correspondence, Allende
commented on Jessupís book and gave details of an alleged secret
naval experiment conducted by the Navy in Philadelphia in 1943.
During the experiment, according to Allende, a ship was rendered
invisible and teleported to and from Norfolk in a few minutes, with
some terrible after-effects for crew members. Supposedly, this
incredible feat was accomplished by applying Einsteinís "unified
field" theory. Allende claimed that he had witnessed the experiment
from another ship and that the incident was reported in a
Philadelphia newspaper. The identity of the newspaper has never been
established. Similarly, the identity of Allende is unknown, and no
information exists on his present address.
In 1956 a copy of
Jessupís book was mailed anonymously to ONR. The
pages of the book were interspersed with hand-written comments which
alleged a knowledge of UFOís, their means of motion, the culture and
ethos of the beings occupying these UFOís, described in
pseudo-scientific and incoherent terms.
Two officers, then assigned to
ONR, took a personal interest in the
book and showed it to Jessup. Jessup concluded that the writer of
those comments on his book was the same person who had written him
about the Philadelphia Experiment.
These two officers personally had the book retyped and arranged for
the reprint, in typewritten form, of 25 copies. The officers and
their personal belongings have left ONR many years ago, and
not have a file copy of the annotated book.
Personnel at the Fourth Naval District believe that the questions
surrounding the so-called "Philadelphia Experiment" arise from quite
routine research which occurred during World War II at the
Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. Until recently, it was believed that
the foundation for the apocryphal stories arose from degaussing
experiments which have the effect of making a ship undetectable or
"invisible" to magnetic mines. Another likely genesis of the bizarre
stories about levitation, teleportation and effects on human crew
members might be attributed to experiments with the generating plant
of a destroyer, the USS Timmerman. In the 1950ís this ship was part
of an experiment to test the effects of a small, high-frequency
generator providing l,000 hz instead of the standard 400hz. The
higher frequency generator produced corona discharges, and other
well known phenomena associated with high frequency generators. None
of the crew suffered effects from the experiment.
ONR has never conducted any investigations on invisibility, either
in 1943 or at any other time (ONR was established in 1946.) In view
of present scientific knowledge, ONR scientists do not believe that
such an experiment could be possible except in the realm of science

Guthrie (LE): Tell us about the history of the
Experiment. You and your brother, Duncan, were naval officers aboard
the ship, the Eldridge, engaged in an experiment about invisibility.
Then, what happened?
Bielek: There were two tests, the first one on July 22nd, 1943. The
hardware worked very well and they (the Navy) achieved invisibility
from radar, sight and camera. The big problem was that the personnel
stationed on the deck of the Eldridge were very badly hit by the
high-powered, electromagnetic radiation. They were thoroughly
disoriented. Their nervous systems dysfunctioned, and they became
LE: How do you make an object invisible?
Bielek: Displace it in time. Prevent a reflection of light or radar
energy from it. If there is no reflected light and radar energy, you
are not going to see it. The scientists were working with a concept
of manipulating time to make an object invisible.
LE: What happened to you and to
Bielek: We were inside the control room during the experiment. The
radiation had no effect on those of us who were below deck because
we were shielded by the steel.
LE: Even with the personnel problem the Navy scheduled a second test
in less than a month, right?
Bielek: Yes. They (the Navy) said: "Okay. You have until the 12th of
August. Do whatever you need to do to complete the experiment. This
test must be finished by that date, or just forget it." It was a
drop-dead date, which means finish by then or you just donít bother.
They did say that they really didnít need optical invisibility, only
radar. They still said that we had to meet that date. Everybody was
very unhappy about it because they knew the health problem was very
serious. No one knew how long it would take to solve this problem.
LE: How was the second test different from the first one?
Bielek: This one, unlike the first, was very successful in that we
obtained radar invisibility after about seventy seconds. Unbeknownst
to us in the control room, the ship vanished right out of the
(Philadelphia) harbor. There was a nice big hole where the ship was
in the water. Remember that for the second test they didnít want
optical invisibility, only radar.
LE: They were not attempting to get optical invisibility, but it
Bielek: They only wanted radar invisibility. The ship was a
haze... then "poof".... it was gone! Even the water line disappeared.
LE: Where did the ship go?
Bielek: Into hyper space.
LE: Will you define that for our readers?
Bielek: Mathematically speaking, it is a domain that is outside of
our normal, three-dimensional reality. In fact, it is outside of the
sixth-dimensional reality. There are three physical dimensions as we
see them, and there are three time dimensions. So, the ship was
outside our domain, including time. Hyper space is a nice
mathematical term that says it is no where in terms of our reality.
No one can accurately define where it is.
LE: Okay. The ship is in hyper space. Now what happens?
Bielek: The equipment started to go haywire after about 30 seconds.
We (Bielek and his brother, Duncan) were seeing strange effects in
the control room.
LE: Exactly what did you see?
Bielek: The banks of electron tubes----3000 of them in
racks----started to glow in an unstable way. It was wavering, which
was very unusual. Then we started getting some high voltage
archovers, like many lightning bolts, even though there was no high
voltage equipment in the room to cause such an effect. We tried to
get someone on the radio, but we heard only static. We were on our
own, so we decided to turn the equipment down. We went for the main
power control handles, but they were frozen. At that time we decided
to get out of the control room and to go up on deck.
LE: What did you see when you went on deck?
Bielek: A greenish haze. Sailors walking around. There was great
LE: What was happening to the other sailors?
Bielek: They were running around in circles like they were totally
disoriented. They didnít know where they were or what to
do.... acting almost to the point of being crazy, but not quite.
Obviously, they were very disturbed or neurotic. Duncan and I looked
at this and decided to jump overboard and swim to shore.
LE: Why didnít you stay at your post?
Bielek: Because we couldnít shut down the equipment. We went up on
deck, saw what was happening, and jumped overboard. Only we never
hit the water.
LE: You were floating in hyper space at that time?
Bielek: We were floating someplace. It felt like we were falling
through a tunnel. We didnít know where we were or what was going on.
We experienced what seemed like two minutes of this.... and I have to
be totally subjective on the amount of time.... we would up in a
military base, standing on our feet, at night, with a chain link
fence to our back.
LE: What was the name of the military base?
Bielek: The Montauk base on Long Island, New York. Only we didnít
know it at the time. The next thing we knew there was a helicopter
beaming a searchlight into our faces. We did not know what a
helicopter was; they were still in the experimental phases in 1943.
Military police ran out, grabbed us, and took us to a building. We
went down several floors in an elevator, underground. An elderly
civilian walked toward us and said, "Gentlemen. Iíve been waiting
for you. Iím Dr. Von Neumann."
LE: How did you feel at this point?
Bielek: We didnít believe him. We told him that he couldnít be
Von Neumann because he is a much younger man and we left him about
an hour ago. He said, "Oh, yes. I am. Unfortunately, you are no
longer in 1943. This is 1983. I am 40 years older. Welcome to
Montauk. This is the Phoenix Project." We still didnít believe him.
LE: What did you believe?
Bielek: We thought the guy was nuts!
LE: Did you ever think that you were taken from the ship,
brainwashed, and placed in this very unusual scenario?
Bielek: A lot of thoughts went through our heads at that time. We
were confused and agitated. Then he (Von Neumann) took us for a
"cookís tour" of the underground facility. And that is when we saw
all kinds of computers, tape recorders, large screen displays, hard
drives and similar equipment.
LE: Things that obviously did not exist in 1943.
Bielek: There was no such thing as even a tape recorder in the U.S.
in 1943. We did not recognize any of this equipment. After the tour
we watched color TV on a large screen. WE had only seen black and
white (TV) up to that point. The commercials were particularly
interesting. The one that sticks out in my mind was about flying to
Hawaii for your next vacation in a 747 jet. There were no such jets
LE: Seems like you were pretty emotional.
Bielek: We were getting quite upset and decided maybe the old man
was Von Neumann and maybe we were in the future! We were then taken
upstairs and outside where we were given a short tour of the base.
But, we were not allowed to leave. They took us back to Von Neumann,
who said, "Gentlemen, we have a problem. Your ship, the Eldridge, is
still in hyperspace, and the bubble around it is growing. We can
turnoff the equipment here at Montauk, but your shipís equipment is
still running and feeding the hyperspace bubble. Unless it breaks
down, there is enough fuel on board to run the generator for 30
LE: What would happen if the hyperspace had continued to grow?
Bielek: He told us that it could grow large enough to engulf the
LE: So, the Earth would be in hyperspace somewhere past the sixth
Bielek: Yes, out of our normal space. Who knows what would happen
then. So, they had to do something to prevent it from growing. They
decided to send us back to the ship so we could smash the equipment.
They said that they had complete control over space and time at
Montauk, and that they could send us anywhere and to any time.
LE: They had a time machine that you walked into and were
Bielek: Yes. They did. It was a
time tunnel, actually more than a
time machine. We didnít believe them, but they did send us back to
the deck of the Eldridge with instructions to smash the equipment
anyway that we could, in order to turn it off.
LE: One minute you were watching color TV. The next minute they are
sending you and Duncan back to the ship deck full of crazy sailors.
How did that make you feel?
Bielek: Not very good. We went back to the ship to smash the
equipment, not really knowing what was going to happen.
LE: How did you destroy the machines?
Bielek: We got axes and started smashing tubes, tube banks, and
smaller equipment. Eventually, the generator wound down.
LE: And you returned to third dimensional reality?
Bielek: Before the ship re-emerged in the harbor, however, we went
out on deck and saw sailors buried in the steel deck and bulkhead.
One of them was our younger brother.
LE: Why did people get stuck in the walls?
Bielek: Because of the process of re-materializing out of hyperspace
into our reality. As the fields collapsed, the molecular structure
of the sailorís bodies was also shifting. If they were moving
around, and a lot of them were, they would be in a fluid state until
they re-materialized. If they were floating around hear a wall when
it re-materialized, they would be stuck in it.
LE: How did you and
Duncan escape this tragedy?
Bielek: We didnít, totally. Our little brother Jim died that way
(stuck in steel). And Duncan didnít stay (on board). He jumped
overboard again, before the fields finally collapsed, and would up
someplace in 1983 or around that time period.
Duncan leave again because of what happened to your brother
Bielek: Yes. Jim died when he got stuck in a bulkhead.
disappeared back into the future. I stayed there (on board ship),
and eventually the fields re-materialized.
LE: You could have jumped overboard too.
Bielek: I could have. Duncan was expecting me to. I didnít for one
reason. I saw Jim there, crying, with his head and shoulders out of
the steel. So, I put my arms around him and he died that way.
LE: You lost both of your brothers and traveled forty years in time.
Thatís enough to drive the average Joe on the street crazy.
Bielek: Yes, if it were the "average Joe on the street," he probably
would have gone insane. I stayed sane, perhaps, because of my naval
training. Maybe I was selected for the job by somebody who know more
than I did. I often speculated, "Why me?"
LE: Why do you think?
Bielek: Maybe because of my father. He had been a career Navy man.
He also was smuggling Jewish scientists out of Germany during WWII.
One of them happen to be Herman C. Untermann, who later became
director of the
Montauk Project from 1977 to 1983.
LE: Where you were in 1983 did you find out who won the war (WWII)
and bring back some military information?
Bielek: Oh, yes. They told us we had won the war, and were in a Cold
War with Russia, and had been on the moon.
LE: Did they tell you anything that could change events?
Bielek: No. There is a problem with doing that, called the
time-loop. Our being there physically (in the future) violated the
flow of time and created time ripples. If we had brought back
knowledge to change the history of the war or speed it up we could
have caused a closed-loop time paradox, in which interfering with
the past sufficiently could change the future. In doing so, the
person in the future could have changed where he had been.
LE: What is the "present" when you travel in time?
Bielek: The "present" is where you are. Your reference is where you
were born. A "time lock" occurs at the time of conception. Even if
you move up and down the time stream, you still have the same
LE: Why do you think this happened to you and
Bielek: Weíve never been able to answer that. It may have been
planned, but not by us or anyone else on the ship. There were two
others who jumped overboard, but they disintegrated.
LE: What differences did you sense about yourself when you went back
Bielek: My mental outlook had drastically changed. Physically I did
not feel any difference.
LE: Did you witness any alien intervention?
Bielek: I did not see any aliens in 1943. We found out since then
that they (aliens) were there. I have a picture of Valiant Thor, a
being from beneath the surface of Venus, taken from the
plan to show that photograph at the Asheville, North Carolina Expo.
However, the aliens were heavily involved with Montauk. They were
there---visible---mostly from 1973 to 1983, assisting with the time
LE: How did the aliens benefit?
aliens were the ones who transmitted the drop-dead date
of August 12, 1943 down the chain of command working on the
Philadelphia Experiment. When the time travel occurred it caused a
rift in space-time, but it did not destroy it. That hole allowed
alien ships from other domains to come through in large numbers and
sizes. The rift was created when Montauk locked with the
Philadelphia Experiment. But, they (the government) couldnít have
done so without the alien help, especially for the super hardware
LE: So, that is why you conclude that aliens were involved with the
project in 1943?
Bielek: Yes, to allow the two experiments to lock.
LE: Do you consider these aliens to be of a
Bielek: Basically, yes.
LE: What proof do you have of the alien intervention?
Bielek: The government does have photos. Physically, I saw the
aliens when I was in the Montauk underground.
LE: You are very vocal about what you know. Why do you think you are
not interfered with?
Bielek: Perhaps because of my time travel with
Duncan and the
time-loop problem. They (the government) doesnít dare touch us until
LE: Why 2003?
Bielek: It is 20 years after the 1983 incident. Time equations show
that, because of the Earthís biorhythms, it takes 20 years for the
whole thing to stabilize down to the way it was before any of this
happened. We donít have to worry about the past, just the future. If
this time-hole isnít dampened by something in 2003 it could flare up
again and get worse.
LE: Are you and Duncan the "dampening factor?"
LE: What happens if you die before 2003?
Bielek: Depending on how close it is to 2003, the effect could be a
very unstabilizing and unsettling event for Earth.
LE: Thatís a big statement. If you go, so does the Earth?
Bielek: The government wonít let us die.
LE: Assuming that you and
Duncan are still alive on August 12, 2003,
what could happen?
Bielek: The whole thing becomes stable and probably shuts down,
unless someone builds hardware to extend it.
LE: Is there a price on your head after August 12, 2003?
Bielek: Theoretically, there could be a price on my head now because
I have been so open in talking about these projects... the
Philadelphia Experiment and the
Montauk Project. But, I have never
been approached by a government agent and they have never threatened
me. But they have threatened others.
LE: Why do you think that the government allows you to speak so
Bielek: I really canít answer that. I have said
enough that other
people have been nailed for, but they never say "boo" to me.
LE: Why should people believe your incredible story?
Bielek: Do your own homework and research. Thereís a lot of

Rainbow") had its origin in a feasibility study started in the early
1930ís at the University of Chicago (1931) and later moved to
Princetonís Institute of Advanced Studies. Involved in the Program
at various times were renowned scientists that included Dr.
Albert Einstein, Dr. John von Neumann, Dr.
Nikola Tesla, and others.
Originally a theoretical study in methods to produce an
"invisibility screen", the first fully successful test in 1940
converted the program to a military project : "Project Rainbow". As
a military (Navy) program, a volunteer crew had to be trained and a
ship selected - the Eldridge (DE 173). Equipment had to be ordered,
built, and installed for seaborne tests. Sea trials were conducted
outside of Philadelphia, in the Delaware Bay area.
First tests were in July, 1943 with serious personnel problems
resulting. The final test - 12 August 1943 - was an utter disaster
to ship and crew : the ship survived after its return to normal time
and location in the Philadelphia harbor. The U.S. Navy continues to
deny to this day that this project ever took place : or that it was
coupled through hyperspace to another project in the future (1983).
The expectations for the project and the nature of the problems with
the crew will be developed and discussed, as well as why the "human
equation" failed. A review of prior publications attempting to
expose this project will also be discussed. The lecturer, Alfred D. Bielek, was born in August 1916 as
Edward A. Cameron, son of
Alexander D. Cameron, Sr. He attended several Universities,
graduating with a Ph D. in Physics (1939). Enlisting in the Navy
along with his brother, they eventually became directly involved in
the "Philadelphia Experiment". The story of how he -
- was eventually removed form the project and became Alfred D. Bielek is a bizarre story of government brainwashing and
manipulation, and destruction of a career. The story of his brother
is still more bizarre as well as tragic.
Mr. Bielek is today a retired electronics engineer with 30 years of
a consulting career behind him. The following is a Vangard Sciences
commentary by Jerry W. Decker and is based on personal studies in a
variety of subjects including the "Philadelphia Experiment" and
attendance of the lecture Mr. Bielek is a most engaging speaker. He
presents a wide range of popular references during his talks and
weaves quite a web. However, the information available prior to the
1983 movie, "The Philadelphia Experiment" does not concern the
prospect of time transport.
The stated focus of the "Philadelphia Experiment" project was to
"achieve radar invisibility". Mr. Bielek states that his "memories
began coming back AFTER seeing the movie in 1988." I got the
impression that he incorporates new topics into his storyline as
fast as he hears them, claiming that his "memory suddenly came back
on that." Another major flaw was the statement that Nikola Tesla was
in association with and in charge of the project. This is highly
incredible since the experiment occurred in July, 43í and Tesla died
on January 7, 1943 in New York City.
Yet another reference which is difficult to believe is that
LeBon was a consultant and worked with Tesla and Einstein on the
project. Bielek says that Thorn EMI, producer of the film, "The
Philadelphia Experiment" was banned from showing it in September
1983. He later says it was given a limited showing in the USA.
Thorn Instruments, an old English manufacturer of labware from the
early 1800ís bought into EMI and had in their archives a story of a
disappearing ship with a picture of the "time traveller" who brought
it to them.
In the picture were the Wilson brothers of Thorn,
Aleister Crowley (infamous occultist) and a 4th person who was
This "traveller" said to be
Peter Nickles is a past president of the
USPA (United States Psychotronic Association) and was supposedly in
the picture taken in 1890. Supposedly Mr. Nichols was shown the
picture by a Thorn/EMI representative (Chief Archivist). It showed
him about 10 years older than now, 1989. They would not let Nichols
copy the picture. Bielek says Crowley said that Nichols was a man
out of the future and gave them the story of the disappearing ship.
Alan Batchelor, is said to be another survivor of the experiment.
Project Rainbow was said to be the original name of the project,
later changed to Project Phoenix. It took four hours for the
disappearance from Philadelphia to return. Bielek also said
(extra-terrestrial biological entity #1) gave the secret of the
transistor to the government, (no time frame). (Of course, we all
know the germanium transistor was invented by Thomas Henry Moray and
stolen by Bell Labs)
Bielek says his brother time travelled to 1983,
lost his "time lock", aged about 1 year per hour and died shortly
thereafter. He then said his brother was later reborn. (I donít
pretend to understand this.)
Supposedly every 20 years on the 12th of August, the magnetic energy
peaks, i.e. 1943-1963-1983 to allow a synchronicity. Linking and
coupling to the surge would cause a shift, (again confusing). Dr.
Von Neumann (of computer fame) was supposedly involved in the
"Philadelphia Experiment" with Tesla, Einstein and
says he is recorded to have died in 1953 or 1957.
In Phoenix, 1986,
Bielekís memories recalled a site in Montauk which
might be where Von Neumann currently resides in obscurity. In
January 1988, Bielekís memories of the "Philadelphia Experiment"
were recalled. Another major discrepancy, records indicate the
original manned experiment occurred on October 28, 1943, NOT the
12th August, 1943.
Despite the irregularities, there were some interesting comments
made in regard to time. The two most outstanding things about the
public lecture was the showing of a slide purported to be a "Zero
Time Reference Generator" which looks strangely similar to an old
Army field kitchen refrigeration unit. No technical details were
given or offered.
This device was purported to be the oscillator which drove the coils
of the experiment. Mr. Bielek claimed that the unit shown was used
to synchronize two separate signals (one for each coil).
The literature of the "Philadelphia Experiment" is replete with
descriptions of the technology. Further findings by our group and
associates indicate a more "coherent" approach.
Basically, a coil was wound on each half of the ship and driven by
separate oscillators, synced with an adjustable phase angle to
create a "Scalar-type wave". This distorted the field matrices of
matter encompassed within the field for "unusual effects".
Keely was more than familiar with this field of compound vibrations
and their applications, HELL, HE PRECEDED ALL OTHERS. The other
interesting comment was about a Professor of Mathematics at the
University of Wisconsin in the 30ís.
His name - Henry Levenson.
specialized in time studies and developed a time variant equation.
Mr. Levenson co-authored 2 books and wrote 1. None of these books
are available (of course) but Bielek indicates they might be
available in restricted or private libraries such as Princeton.
The time comments centered around a concept involving a TIME LOCK
which was "encoded" at the time of creation of all matter, living or
otherwise. Thus, all matter created on the Earth, must be "clocked"
to the Earth time lock. The Earth must be "clocked" to the Solar
time lock and that to the Galaxial. If your time lock became
"distorted" by high intensity fields, it would create a variety of
problems due to the instability of the recovery process, assuming
that recovery could be possible.
Bielek claimed that the original system was powered with a 500 KW
generator, later increased to 2 MegaWatt. Another experiment was
supposed to have been done with 3 field coils, all synced to the
same clicking system. The 3 field design created major arcing and
caused a return to the 2 field design. Bielek also claims that there
were 3000 tubes used in the system.
If you get the chance to hear
Mr. Bielek, I do recommend it if only
for entertainment. However, if you want useable data, stick to books
periodicals and your own research. The time theories espoused by
Bielek seem particularly worthy of study. Much of the "Scalar" craze
indicates a technology which could duplicate or surpass the original
Just for grins, I will state my own conclusion and theory on the
subject. I base it on UFO phenomena, the work of Dr. Harold S. Burr,
Dr. Walter Russell, W. J. Hooper and personal observations.
If the original purpose was "invisibility" as stated in various
articles and commentaries, then why did a SHIP wind up in a HARBOR
FILLED WITH WATER and NOT in the middle of a city street or a wheat
field in Kansas. Seems that something is amiss as other accounts of
the experiment state it was not carried out once but several times.
Each time, the ship "teleported" to a watery target. What are the
chances that EVERY TIME the ship would "land" in water??
The U.S. Navy, for one, seemed obsessed with the idea of the perfect
camouflage - the ultimate secret weapon - INVISIBILITY. If only one
of their warships could be made invisible, think of the havoc it
could cause the enemy. Havoc that could conceivably bring the bitter
and long- enduring war to an end.
On October 28, 1943, an experiment was conducted at the Philadelphia
Navy Yard. This event, appropriately enough, became known as "The
Philadelphia Experiment". A Navy escort destroyer named the DE 173
(better known as the U.S.S. Eldridge), with hundreds of tons of
electronic equipment aboard, lay in its dock. Scientists on shore
started the experiment which involved Dr. Albert Einsteinís "Unified
Field Theory", a completed version appearing in the period 1925-27.
"Withdrawn" as incomplete, the revised theory returned in 1940. The
result of the experiment was brain-rattling!
The ship faded rapidly from sight in a foggy, green mist - and
COMPLETELY VANISHED! Speechless amazement struck the wide-eyed
scientists ashore. Then, after a few minutes (another account makes
that "seconds"), the ship reappeared where it had formerly been, to
its Philadelphia dock, and regained its visibility! But that was not
all. Something equally stunning was discovered to have happened
during its vanishment.
During that period of a few minutes (or seconds) the ship had shown
up at its other Norfolk Navy Yard dock in Virginia! So, not only had
it successfully become invisible, but it had also been

Since we live in a serial time which clocks our every action and
records it on the surrounding space continuum. Our presence at in
any space at a given timeframe is captured by local space/matter
conditions so that the moving of the earth and our solar system in
its orbit would not leave us in space were we to teleport. So we
have slices of wherever we have been since our creation. We should
be able to step back into any given slice, not in time, only in
Another condition of this concept is that the PRESENT represents a
suction which maintains matter as a balloon in the "holographic
image" of a mass in a single time frame and in a specific spatial
location. Remember that this is in the PRESENT ONLY.
Since the Eldridge had a history of having been at its OTHER DOCK
SOMETIME IN THE PAST and probably on several occasions, then if we
could distort the tempic (time) field enough, we could momentarily
teleport the ship NOT THROUGH TIME BUT THROUGH SPACE to a place IT
HAD BEEN BEFORE.
Now, if during that act and BEFORE COMPLETE TRANSFER WAS
ACCOMPLISHED, someone cut the power, the portions of matter which
had teleported would be "sucked" back like a vacuum to the source,
i.e. the original spatial location of the PRESENT.
Think of it as two balloons. A full one in Philadelphia represents

Philadelphia port in the original or PRESENT location), a connecting
tube to the Virginia port allows the passage of "matter" into the
empty Eldridge. We get to a point where the source is 1/4 empty and
the target is 3/4 full. IF at this point, someone RELEASES THE
PRESSURE, what happens?
The "teleported matter" will surge back into the ORIGINAL SPATIAL
location which exerts a vacuum to keep its balloon full. Of course,
once the transfer is complete, the suction then takes place from the
target spatial location. Since the pressure (high intensity pulsing
magnetic waves) was released before the transfer was complete, the
resulting surges created massive distortions in all mass encompassed
by the field.
Living organisms record field effects in their tissues. Therefore,
all tissure formations which took place during the surge, recorded
the surges to "haunt" the victims. This apparently distorts the Bio-plasmic
field also to cause major physical problems.

True, enough, such a form of Levitation has been accomplished as
described. It is also a Very commonly observed reaction of certain
Metals to Certain Fields surrounding a current, This field being
used for that purpose. Had Farraday concerned himself about the mag.
field surrounding an Electric Current, We today Would NOT exist or
if We did exist, our present Geo-political situation would not have
the very time-bombish, ticking off towards Destruction, atmosphere

The "result" was complete invisibility of a ship, Destroyer type,
and all of its crew, While at Sea (Oct. 1943) The Field Was
effective in an oblate spheroidal shape, extending one hundred yards
(More or Less, due to Lunar position & Latitude) out from each beam
of the ship. Any Person Within that sphere became vague in form BUT
He too observed those Persons aboard that ship as though they too
were of the same state, yet were walking upon nothing.

Result of a Hyper-Field that is set up, within the field of the

Sailors Actions after their initial Voyage. They Raided a Local to
the Navy Yard "Gin Mill" or "Beer Joint" & caused such Shock &
Paralysis of the Waitresses that Little comprehensible could be
gotten from them, save that Paragraph & the Writer of it, Does Not
Believe it, & Says "I only wrote what I heard & them Dames is Daffy.
So, all I get is "Hide-it" Bedtime Story."

The S.S. Andrew Furuseth, Chief Mate Mowselly, (Will secure Captains

Price or "Splicey" Price May Remember other Names of Deck Crew Men,
(Coast Guard has record of Sailors issued "Papers") Mr. Price Was 18
or 19 then, Oct. 1943, and Lives or Lived at that time in His old
Family Home in Roanoke, V.A. a small town with a Small phone book.
These Men Were Witnesses, The Men of this crew, "Connally of New
Englan, (Boston?), May have Witnessed but I doubt it (Spelling May
be incorrect) DID Witness this.

analytically speaking, without the Howling that is in the Letter to
you accompanying this, I will say the following in all Fairness to
you & to Science.
(1) The Navy did Not know that the men could
become invisible WHILE NOT UPON THE SHIP & UNDER THE FIELDS
(2) The Navy Did Not know that there would be Men Die
from odd effects of HYPER "Field" within or upon "Field".
Further, They even yet do Not know Why this happened & are not even
sure that the "F" within "F" is the reason, for sure at all. In
Short The Atomic bomb didn't kill the experimentors thus the
experiments went on--but eventually one or two were accidentally
killed But the cause was known as to Why they died. Myself, I "feel"
that something pertaining to that Small-boat compass "triggered" off
"The Flames." I have no proof, but Neither Does the Navy.
& Not Mentioned When one or two of their Men,
Visible-within-the-field-to-all-the-others, just Walked into
Nothingness, AND Nothing Could Be felt, of them, either when the
"field" Was turned on OR off, THEY WERE JUST GONE!

Visible & New-Man Just walks seemingly "throo" the Wall of his

scrutinized by & with & under an Installed Protable Field developer

effect that the Sum total of them all could Not ever again be faced
by ANY of those Men or by the Men Working at & upon the Experiments.
I wish to Mention that Somehow, also, The
Disappeared from its Philadelphia Dock and only a Very few Minutes
Later appeared at its other Dock in the Norfolk, Newport News,
Portsmouth area. This was distinctly AND clearly Identified as being
that place BUT the ship then, again, Disappeared and Went Back to
its Philadelphia Dock in only a Very few Minutes or Less. This was
also noted in the newspapers But I forget what paper I read it in or
When It happened.
Probably Late in the experiments, may have been in 1946 after
Experiments were discontinued, I can Not Say for Sure. To the Navy
this Whole thing was So Impractical due to its Morale Blasting
effects Which were so much so that efficient operation of the Ship
was Drastically hindered and then after this occurrence It was shown
the even the Mere operation of a ship could Not be counted upon at
all. In short, Ignorance of this thing bred Such Terrors of it that,
on the Level of attempted operations, with what knowledge was then
available It was deemed as impossible, Impracticable and Too
Horrible I believe that Had YOU then been Working upon & With the
team that was Working upon this project With yourself knowing what
You NOW know, that "The Flames" Would Not have been so unexpected,
or Such a Terrifying Mystery. Also, More than Likely, I must say in
All fairness, None of these other occurrences could have happened
without some knowledge of their possibility of occurring. In fact,
They May have been prevented by a far More Cautious Program AND by a
Much more Cautiously careful Selection of Personnel for Ships
officers & Crew.
Such was not the case. The Navy used whatever Human
Material was at hand, Without Much, if any, thought as to character
& Personality of that Material. If care, Great Care is taken in
selection of Ship, and officers and crew AND If Careful
Indoctrination is taken along with Careful watch over articles of
apparel Such as rings & Watches & Identification bracelets & belt
buckles, Plus AND ESPECIALLY the effect of Hob-Nailed shoes or Cleated-shoes U.S. Navy issue shoes, I feel that some progress
towards dissipating the fearfilled ignorance surrounding this
project Will by Most surely & certainly accomplished. The Records of

Having just recently gotten home from my long travels around the
country I find that you had dropped me a card. You ask that I write
you "at once" and So after taking everything into consideration, I
have decided to do so. You ask me for what is tantamount to positive
proof of something that only the duplication of those devices that
produced "This phenomenon" could ever give you. at least, were I of
scientific bent, I presume that, were I of Such a Curiosity about
something, the which has been produced from a theory that was discarded (1927) as
incomplete, I am sure that I would be of such a dubiousness that I
would Have to be shown those devices that produced such a curious
interaction of Forces & Fields, in operation & their product Mr.
Jessup, I could NEVER possibly satisfy such an attitude.
being that I could not, Nor ever would the Navy Research Dept. (Then
under the present boss of the Navy, Burke) ever let it be known that
any such thing was ever allowed to be done. For you see, It was
because of Burkeís Curiosity & Willingness & prompting that this
experiment was enabled to be carried out. It proved a White-elephant
but His attitude towards advanced & ultra-advanced types of research
is just "THE" THING that put him where he is today. (Or at least, to
be sure, It carries a great weight). Were the stench of such an
Experiments results EVER to come out, He would be crucified.
However, I have noticed, that throo the ages, those who have had
this happen to them, once the vulgar passions that caused the
reaction have cooled-off AND further research OPENLY carried on,
that these crucified ones achieve something akin to Saint hood. You
say that this, "is of the greatest importance". I disagree with you
Mr. Jessup, not just whole Heartedly, but vehemently. However at the
same time, your ideas & your own sort of curiosity is that of mine
own sort and besides my disagreement is based upon philosophical
Morality and not upon that curiosity which Drives Science so
rapidly. I can be of some positive help to you in myself but to do
so would require a Hypnotist, Sodium Pentathol, a tape recorder & an
excellent typist-secretary in order to produce material of Real
value to you.
As you know one who is hypnotized cannot Lie and one who is both
hypnotized AND given "Truth serum" as it is colloquially known COULD
NOT POSSIBLY LIE, AT ALL. To boot, My Memory would be THUS enabled
to remember things in such great detail, things that my present
consciousness cannot recall at all, or only barely and uncertainly
that it would be of far greater benefit to use hypnosis. I could
thus be enabled to not only Recall COMPLETE Names, but also
addresses & telephone numbers AND perhaps the very important Z
numbers of those sailors whom I sailed with them or even came into
contact with. I could too, being something of a Dialectician, be
able to thusly talk exactly as these witnesses talked and imitate or
illustrate their Mannerisms & Habits of thought, thus your
psychologists can figure IN ADVANCE the Surefire method of dealing
Most Successfully with these. I could NOT do this with someone with
whom I had not observed at length & these men, I lived with for
about 6 months, so you are bound to get good to excellent results.
The mind does NOT ever forget, Not really, As you know.
Upon this I
suggest this way of doing this with Myself but further, the Latter
usage of Myself in Mannerism & Thought pattern illustration is
suggested in order that the Goal of inducing these Men to place
themselves at & under your disposal (HYPNOTICALLY OR UNDER TRUTH
SERUM) is a Goal, the Which could Have Far greater impact, due to
co-relation of Experiences remembered Hypnotically by Men who have
NOT seen or even written to each other. at all, for Nearly or over
TEN years. In this, With such Men as Witnesses, giving irrefutable
testimony It is my belief that were Not the Navy, but the Airforce,
confronted with such evidence, (IE Chief of Research) there would be
either an uproar or a quiet and determined effort to achieve SAFELY
"that which" the Navy failed at. They did NOT fail to, I hope you
realize, achieve Metalic & organic invisibility nor did they fail
to, unbesoughtedly, achieve transportation of thousands of tons of
Metal & Humans at an eyes blink speed. Even though this latter
effect of prolonged experimentation was (to them)
The thing that
caused them to consider the experiment as a failure, I BELIEVE THAT
FURTHER EXPERIMENTS WOULD NATURALLY HAVE PRODUCED CONTROLLED
TRANSPORT OF GREAT TONNAGES AT ULTRA-FAST SPEEDS TO A DESIRED POINT
THE INSTANT IT IS DESIRED throo usage of an area covered by: (1)
those cargoes and (2) that "Field" that could cause those goods,
Ships or Ship, parts (MEN WERE TRANSPORTED AS WELL) to go to another
Point. Accidentally & to the embarrassed perplexity of the Navy THIS
HAS ALREADY HAPPENED TO A WHOLE SHIP, CREW & ALL. I read of this AND
of THE OFF-BASE AWOL ACTIVITIES OF THE crew-Men who were at the time
invisible in a Philadelphia NEWSPAPER. UNDER NARCO-HYPNOSIS I CAN BE
ENABLED TO DIVULGE THE NAME, DATE & SECTION & PAGE NUMBER of that
Paper & the other one.
Thus this papers "Morgue" will divulge EVEN
MORE POSITIVE PROOF ALREADY PUBLISHED of this experiment. The Name
of the REPORTER who skeptically covered & wrote of these incidents
(OF THE RESTAURANT-BARROOM RAID WHILE INVISIBLE & OF THE SHIPS
SUDDEN AWOL) AND WHO INTERVIEWED the Waitresses CAN THUS BE FOUND,
thus HIS and the Waitresses testimony can be added to the Records.
Once on this track, I believe That you can uncover CONSIDERABLY MORE
evidence to sustain this-----(what would you call it-----SCANDAL or
DISCOVERY?) You would Need a Dale Carnegie to Maneuver these folks
into doing just as you wish. It would be cheaper than paying
everyone of all these witnesses & Much more Ethical. The Idea Is, to
the Layman type of person, utterly ridiculous. However, can you
remember, all by yourself, the Date of a Newspaper in which you saw
an interesting item more than 5 years ago? Or recall names of Men,
their phone #s that you saw in 1943-44.
I do hope you will consider this plan. You will Progress as Not
possible in any other way. Of course, I realize that you would need
a Man Who can cause people to want to have fun, to play with
Hypnotism, one that can thusly those he-you need to: #1 come to His
Demonstration & thus call on them to be either or both "Honored" as
Helping with the show" & for doing Him a Great favor, &/or being
part of the act for the mite of a small fee He would HAVE to be a
Man of such an adroit ingenuity at Manufacturing a plausible story
on the-instant-he-sizes-up-his-" personality-to be dealt with THAT
had cost PLENTY. The ability to convince people of an outright Lie
as being the absolute truth would be one of his prime prerequisites.
(Ahem.) Yes, some such skullduggery would have to be thought well out
& done. THE ULTIMATE END WILL BE A TRUTH TOO HUGE, TOO FANTASTIC, TO
NOT BE TOLD. A WELL FOUNDED TRUTH, BACKED UP BY UNOBFUSCATIVE PROOF
I would like to find where it is that these Sailors live NOW. IT is
known that some few people can somehow tell you a mans name & His
Home address UNDER HYPNOSIS EVEN THOUGH NEVER HAVING EVER MET OR
SEEN THE PERSON. These folks have a very high or just a high PSI
factor in their make-up that can be intensified under stress or
strain OR that usually is intensified under extreme fright. It also
can be Re-intensified by Hypnosis, thus is like reading from the
Even though that Barroom-Restaurant Raid was staged by invisible or
partly invisible men, those men CAN SEE EACH OTHER THUS NAMES, In
the excitement, were sure to have been Mentioned, whether last or
first Names or Nicknames. A check of the Naval Yards Dispensories or
Hospital of aid stations or prison RECORDS of that particular day
that the Barroom-Restaurant occurred May reveal the EXACT NAMES OF
PRECISELY WHO WERE THE MEN, THEIR SERVICE SERIAL NUMBERS & THUS THE
INFORMATION ON WHERE THEY ARE FROM BE SECURED & by adroit "Maneuverings"
of those still at Home, THE NAME OF THE PLACE where they are at
present can be secured.
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACTUALLY SPEAK TO (or some of THE
MEN) A MAN
WHO WAS ONCE AN INVISIBLE HUMAN BEING? (MAY BECOME SO IN FRONT OF
YOUR VERY EYES IF HE TURNS-OFF HIS HIP SET) Well, all this
fantastically Preposterous sort of rubbish will be necessary, Just
to do that, the Hypnotist-psychologist & all that. Maybe I suggest
something too thorough & too Methodical for your taste but then, I,
as first subject, Donít care to be Hypnotized at
all, But too, feel that certain pull of curiosity about this thing
that, to me, is irresistible. I want to crack this thing wide open.
My reasons are simply to enable more work to be done upon this
"Field Theory." I am a star-gazer Mr. Jessup. I make no bones about
this and the fact that I feel that IF HANDLED PROPERLY, I.E.
PRESENTED TO PEOPLE & SCIENCE IN THE PROPER PSYCHOLOGICALLY
EFFECTIVE MANNER, I feel sure that Man will go where He now dreams
of being--to the stars via the form of transport that the Navy
accidentally stumbled upon (to their embarrassment) when their EXP.
SHIP took off & popped-up a minute or so later on several Hundred
sea travel-trip miles away at another of its Berths in the
Chesapeake Bay area. I read of this in another news paper & only by
Hypnosis could any Man remember all the details of which paper, date
of occurrence & etc., you see? Eh. Perhaps already, the Navy has used
this accident of transport to build your UFOís. It is a logical
advance from any standpoint. What do you think???
The Philadelphia Experiment

One of the most well-known stories about secret experiments in time
is know as the Philadelphia Experiment.
1943 it is said that the US Navy was conducting invisibility
experiments aboard a ship called the USS Eldridge using Einsteinís
Unified Field Theory.
The objective of this experiment was to make the ship undetectable
to radar and while that was achieved, there was a totally unexpected
and drastic side effect.
It is said that the ship became invisible to the naked eye and was
removed from time and space as we know it. Although this was a
remarkable breakthrough in terms of technology, it was a catastrophe
to the people involved.
Stories say that not only the ship... but also the sailors had been
transported out of this dimension and returned in a state of
complete mental disorientation and horror. Some were even planted
into the bulkhead of the ship itself. Those who survived were
discharged as "mentally unfit" or otherwise discredited and the
entire affair was covered up.
